The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), resorted to biblical references in a speech held on Friday (29), during the inauguration of a square in São Bernardo do Campo (SP).

Appointed as a possible presidential, Tarcisio spoke of “divine mission” and stated that “God gave to each one (of us) a gift – to the councilors, a gift. For the secretaries, a gift. If we do not use this gift, we will be sinning.”

“We do not know why God puts us at a given position at a certain moment to fulfill a certain mission. And sometimes, it happens to everyone, we think it is not ready, that does not realize. Who here has thought it was not ready? That the burden is very heavy? But if God gave this burden, if God gave this mission … It is because God will be able to overcome,” said the governor.

Despite saying that he does not think of presidential candidacy, Tarcisio has been established as a possible right representative in the race to the Plateau in 2026, since former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) is ineligible until 2030, convicted by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for abuse of political power and misuse of the media.

With the impossibility of the former president competing, the right begins to organize around the viable names for 2026 and supporters are increasingly around Tarcisio. Bolsonaro, however, maintains that he will apply for the presidency next year, even ineligible. The former president has not yet appointed his successor and his children criticize movements to define any candidacy other than his father.

During his speech on Friday, he told the story of Abraham and Moses, biblical characters who hesitated, but answered God’s call. “He (God) gave this mission to a shepherd, and do you know what Moses answered? ‘Who am I, to free his people?’ Look what God answered him: ‘I am with you.

It still adds: “We have to be aware that God gives the mission, but it also gives strength. We have to be aware that God will give the ability to endure. God will send the angels to pass together so as not to let the shuttlecock fall.”

Tarcisio finished the speech by saying that “there will be stone on the way, there will be thorn, it will be difficult, but perseveres in prayer” and that victory will come.
