In a note signed by PT’s National Secretary of International Relations, Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE), the party criticized the President’s government movement against Venezuela and reaffirmed support for the principles of Brazilian foreign policy in defense of sovereignty.
“We do not accept threats, not so little violent acts against Venezuela. Our region wants to remain an example to the world of peaceful coexistence and cooperation, based on respectful dialogue as provided for in international law and the United Nations Charter,” the note said. “We do not need authoritarian interventions, alien to the continent, to overcome our challenges,” he added.
Costa also said that the solution to the problems facing South American countries needs to be carried out through diplomacy. “At this time, it is imperative that serenity prevails …. Threats and violent acts disrespect our tradition of dialogue and the construction of peaceful solutions to the problems of South America,” he wrote.
