Many people only care about when vision begins to fail or when a punctual discomfort, such as itching or redness, arises. But eye health goes far beyond that. Some serious eye diseases develop silently and only cause symptoms when they are already advanced.

Therefore, being aware of body signs and keeping follow -up with one is fundamental to preserving vision and to avoid serious complications.

Common symptoms that should not be ignored

Not every eye discomfort is serious, but seemingly simple symptoms can hide important illnesses. The blurred vision, for example, may indicate from the need for even or retina diseases. The dry eye, so common today, may be linked to hormonal changes, autoimmune diseases or chronic inflammation.

Other signs also deserve attention, such as persistent itching and redness, which may suggest allergies or even keratoconus; Volates associated with flashes of light, which can signal serious retinal problems; and headaches or around the eyes, which may be related to visual effort or changes in eye pressure.

The correct use of eye drops

Eye drops are powerful tools in eye treatment, but should be used only with medical advice. They can control intraocular pressure, treat inflammation, infections and allergies, but inappropriate use brings risks. Corticosteroid eye drops, for example, relieve redness, but can cause glaucoma and cataract if used without supervision. Already vasoconstrictors, who only “take the red”, do not treat the cause of the problem and can even aggravate it.

The importance of early diagnosis

Most eye diseases can be treated or successfully controlled when early diagnosed. A simple examination of view can identify pressure changes, retinal injuries, inflammation and even signs of systemic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension.

Care should start in childhood, follow adulthood and intensify after 40 years. Regular consultations are a direct investment in quality of life, safety and independence.

Seeing well is not just a matter of comfort, but of health. If you feel any eye discomfort, do not postpone the appointment. And even without symptoms, keeping follow -up is essential, because sometimes a simple eye drop is not enough – but early diagnosis can make all the difference.
