Lawyer Matheus Mayer of Mayer Milanez argued that General Augusto Heleno had been away from former President Jair Bolsonaro since he joined the PL and brought the center to the government to request the acquittal of former GSI (Institutional Security Office) in the coup plot.
Among the examples used are reports of 2020 who cite Bolsonaro’s approach to the centrão, including the appointment of the president of the PP, Ciro Nogueira, as minister of the Civil House, in July 2021. It also mentions article from Veja magazine of February 2022 that claimed that Heleno was being “set aside by Bolsonaro.”
Mayer also reproduced an excerpt from the former GSI minister’s testimony this year in which he speaks of “a new political situation, where I, of course, had to feel that the situation was a little different.” Among the statements mentioned is one of the former approach of orders Mauro Cid, who said Heleno “was less and less being demanded to dispatch and advise the president.”
