A Commission of Industry, Commerce and Services of the House of Representatives approved a PLN (Complementary Bill) which includes 21 events sector activities in the MEI (Individual Microentrepreneur).

The proposal covers technicians of audiovisual systems, photographers, videokers, assemblers, scenario electricians, waiters, kitchen chefs, decorators, cultural producers, DJs, musicians, receptionists, event security guards, among others.

The text points out that the formalization of workers is essential to expand social protection and ensure access to social security benefits, credit and legal certainty.

According to Deputy Daniel Agrobom (PL-GO), the measure corrects a gap in the current regulation and strengthens a sector that represents 3.8% of GDP (Brazilian internal product), with annual revenues of R $ 291 billion and about 500 thousand people involved.

“We need to give a response that meets the wishes of the population to enter the formal sector of the economy. We believe that the inclusion of events sector activities will boost the country’s economic growth and increase employment,” said the parliamentarian after the approval of the text on Tuesday (2).

The approved substitute foresees 60 days for the Simples National Management Committee to adapt the regulation.

The text had wide participation of the private sector that has been claiming the changes for years. For the president of Abrafesta (Brazilian Association of Events), Ricardo Dias, approval marks a historical achievement.

“This victory is the result of years of mobilization and dialogue with the government. Including event professionals in MEI means recognizing the economic and social relevance of our production chain, expanding formalization opportunities and ensuring more dignity for thousands of workers,” he said.

The text still needs to be analyzed by the Finance and Taxation Commissions and Constitution and Justice before going to the Plenary.
