More than three million people were affected. The Pakistan Meteorology Department maintains flood alert level for various rivers
At least 884 people died and more than 1,100 were injured in the floods caused by the rains of monsoons that fall since the end of June in Pakistan, local authorities said on Thursday.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the northwest of the country reported the largest number of deaths, with 489 deadly victims, according to the latest data from the Pakistani disaster management authority (NDMA), cited by the EFE news agency.
However, in recent days, the focus of the disaster has changed to the province of Punjab, on the border with India, where 223 deaths have been recorded.
About 300,000 people have been removed in the last 48 hours of flood -affected areas in Punjab province, following the last flood alerts in India, according to the Associated Press (AP) news agency.
The floods hit dozens of villages in the Muzaffarh district of flooding Narowal and Sialkot, both by the border with India.
This withdrawal raises the total number of displaced to 1.3 million since last month, said AP.
The Pakistan Meteorology Department maintains the flood’s alert level for the Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, which cross the densely populated Punjab and industrial zone, while other parts of the east also remain a “very high or extremely high” alert level.
