NATO Secretary -General and Czech Prime Minister after the coalition summit willing to highlight the importance of supporting Ukraine. They agreed on the need for strong security guarantees and increased defense investments.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala received NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on Thursday and jointly participated in the coalition summit. Fiala said it was an important meeting that confirmed the complete consensus of the participating representatives to further support for Ukraine. At a joint press conference, Rutte highlighted the Czech Republic as a reliable partner of the Alliance. TASR reports this according to the daily Guardian and TV CT24.
Fiala: We need to provide reliable security guarantees to discourage Russia from another aggression
According to Fial, the leaders agreed to continue intensive aid to Ukraine to prevent and continue the pressure on Russia and to be created for the fair and lasting peace.
“In order to achieve peace, there is a strong consensus that we must provide reliable security guarantees that would discourage Russia from another aggression,” said the Czech Prime Minister. He stressed that thanks to the Czech ammunition initiative, Ukraine has already managed to deliver 1.1 million pieces of large -caliber ammunition.
Rutte appreciated the increased defense spending in individual Member States at a press conference. According to him, they are needed to be able to face threats, including Russia.
Rutte: Ukraine will not be the last stop of Russia
In connection with the summit of the coalition willing to declare that the basis of future security guarantees for Ukraine should be a strong Ukrainian army. He also reiterated his warning for Europe, which should not be built naively to Russia.
“The facts are clear. Russia invests 40 percent of its state budget in defense. They invest them because they want to succeed in Ukraine, and we must prevent them from succeeding,” he said.
Rutte pointed out that Ukraine would not be the last stop of Russia. He thus hinted at the reports that Moscow was preparing to attack the territory of NATO Member States. “We have to make sure that our deterrent capacities are so big that they never try,” he added.
