Defender Gil terminated his contract with Santos on Wednesday (3). The 38 -year -old defender ended his bond with the fish, which went to the end of the season. The operation has already been registered in the Daily Newsletter (IDB).
Gil leaves the club a year and a half after being hired in January 2024. The veteran player arrived at the São Paulo team after a second time in 2019 and 2024.
In Alvinegro Praiano, Gil was one of the pillars of the team led by Fábio Carille, who won access to the elite and the title of Serie B last year. In all, there were 66 games with the Santos shirt and a goal scored.
The player’s termination may have been motivated by the great competition in the position. On the last day of the window, Peixe announced defenders Adonis Frias and Alexis Duarte to reinforce the sector, which has Luan Peres, João Basso and Zé Ivaldo as main options, besides young Luisão.
On other occasions, Gil even considered his retirement at the end of this season. With this, it is possible that the athlete “hang the boots” earlier.
As the main career titles, the 38-year-old defender won the South American Recopa for Corinthians in 2013 and the 2015 Brazilian Championship.
