Vice President tells young Pan that the party has a ‘residual’ portion of support for Lula; Caption ratified a decision to leave government in a meeting in the executive on Wednesday (3)
The vice president of Union Brazil, ACM Neto, told the Young Panwhich the president failed to not establish a dialogue with the party leadership at the beginning of the government. It argues that Lula preferred to close and maintain only relationships with his own PT and the left, without looking at a “country agenda”.
Salvador’s former mayor also argued that União Brasil was experiencing a “embarrassing” situation in the government. Although they determine the departure of the Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, from the Esplanade of Ministries, the party will accept the permanence of nominated by Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP).
Have Celso Sabino already notified his decision to leave the party or leave the government?
ACM Neto: Minister Celso Sabino has not yet commented. We all have a good relationship with him, but the party was in a relationship in an embarrassing situation. The decision was ratified at a (party) executive meeting. It was necessary to make it clear that we will not be in the 2026 project of the PT candidacy. So it was not reasonable to continue with positions.
But Senate President David Alcolumbre continues with his nominees, ministers Waldez Góes and Frederico Siqueira, in the government…
ACM Neto: Ministers are nominations of David, not from União. The two ministers are part of President David’s understanding with the government. We will not enter the articulations of the Senate President. We will not ban anyone from establishing relationships. President David has to maintain a harmony in the Senate.
União Brasil is a very diverse party. Do you intend to release state directories in next year’s election?
ACM Neto:We haven’t decided on the directory yet. But support to the government is residual. Few states still have people in alliance with the PT. The vast majority of the party is opposed. The trend is a complete alignment against the PT.
Does the party work with the possibility of its own candidacy, or would you accept having a candidate from another party?
ACM Neto: Our pre-candidate is Ronaldo Caiado. But I argue that there is a wide alliance that goes from the center to the right, with candidates who want to face the PT. It is possible to build a wide front for a national pacification project.
Would this pacification project include the endorsement of former President Jair Bolsonaro?
ACM Neto: The former president has political and electoral density. Will it be possible to build an application without talking to him? I don’t think so. You have to dialogue. It would not be the endorsement of one person. But you have to hear his opinion from former first lady Michelle. All must be heard in a wide construction.
Why did the party go to government if you didn’t already have this identification with the petista project?
ACM Neto: We did not enter the government, at any time União Brasil was part of the government base. The president (Lula) failed, sinned, took a long time to call the party president to dialogue, we were never heard for a country agenda. The Lula government has always been from PT by the PT. The Lula 3 government was much more closed than previous managements. There was no more broad view of a country’s repair. Instead of the government to work to adjust a shareholder, it increased tension.
