Many workers dream of the day they can stop working and dedicate themselves to other priorities. The idea of asking for early renovation is tempting, but is not always financially advantageous. In 2025, the legal age of the reform will be 66 years and 7 months. However, there are cases where it is possible to reform first without suffering such heavy cuts, or even without penalties.
Only in very long careers and in some specific professions is it possible to request early reform without losing money. In the remaining cases, the law provides cuts that permanently reduce the amount of the pension.
The rules vary according to the contributory career and the professional situation. There are special regimes that allow you to access the pension earlier, from very long careers to quick wear professions. But there are also applicable penalties in many cases, so the decision requires a careful analysis.
The agenda of age flexibility
According to the ekonomist, who has 60 or more years and at least 40 years of discounts can request early renovation under the flexibility regime. Here does not apply the sustainability factor, but there is a cut of 0.5% for each month of anticipation compared to the personal age of the reform.
This personal age is reduced by four months per year beyond the 40 discounts. For example, a worker who at 63 has 44 years of discounts can be renovated at this age, but will suffer a 12% penalty for anticipating two years.
Very long careers: the most advantageous exception
According to the same source, those who are at least 48 years of discounts and 60 years of years may request renovation without cuts. The same applies to those who have 46 years of discounts started before the age of 17. In these cases the sustainability factor does not apply, making this the safest way to request early reform without losing money.
Long -term involuntary unemployment
The ekonomist writes that long -term unemployed can anticipate the pension, provided they have exhausted the unemployment allowance and comply with the age and discount conditions. However, here applies the sustainability factor (15.8% in 2024), as well as additional reductions that depend on the date of unemployment.
Quick wear professions
Some professional careers, by physical requirement, have specific regimes. Miners, fishermen, wooden embroiderers or dancers can be renovated earlier and, in many cases, without applying the sustainability factor.
In Minas and Quarry workers, for example, the legal age lowers one year for every two of effective service. The dancers can request the renovation from the age of 55 with 10 years of discounts, or at 45 if they have 20 years of career.
Special regimes in the civil service and other sectors
There are also their own rules for civil servants enrolled in Caixa Geral de Retirement and for specific sectors, such as Sapadors Firefighters, Air Traffic Controllers or Pilots. In these cases, conditions vary, but in many situations there are no additional cuts.
Cuts to take into account
In most early renovation requests, the 0.5% reduction factor applies for each month of advance. The sustainability factor, which represents 15.8% in 2024, is only removed in very long careers or in professions covered by their own regimes.

Asking for early reform can be advantageous for those who bring together special conditions, especially very long careers, as concluded.
