The case was communicated by Social activist Janes Peteca, who located the animals at different points of the campus, some close to the riparian forest area and others in places of internal circulation. The situation caught the attention of university students and servers.

Identified primates have characteristics of Amazonian species known as cork monkey (Saimiri sp.), But confirmation depends on technical analysis of mastofauna specialists.

The causes of the deaths have not yet been clarified. Among the hypotheses raised are running over internal roads, dog attacks, accidental intoxication or natural causes. UFAC Administration should trigger the Acre Environment Institute (IMAC) and Ibama to follow the case. Researchers at the institution’s own biological sciences course can also assist in the analysis.

“This record worries because it involves wild species that circulate in the university space and need protection. It is essential to investigate the causes to avoid new episodes,” said activist Janes Peteca.

UFAC has preserved native forest areas that make up the Urban Ecological Corridor of Rio Branco, which explains the constant presence of wild animals in the campus. Experts highlight the importance of environmental monitoring and prevention measures such as speed reducers and control of domestic animal access.
