It has been dismantled by a criminal group formed by seven people specialized in housing theft through the use of high complexity techniques that allowed them to commit crimes through master keys, without leaving visible signs of having raided the properties of which they subtracted jewels and money. Those arrested disguised themselves as technicians or deliverymen to avoid raising suspicions in the communities of neighbors in which they practiced crimes. The seven members of the band, six of Colombian and one Spanish nationality, were arrested during a police operation while committing a robbery in a home of. Four of them have entered prison after being brought to court. The National Police has managed to clarify at least a dozen robberies committed in the Balearic capital since last April.
The investigation was initiated by the Robberry Group of the National Police of the Balearic Islands after several citizens filed complaints for robberies suffered in their homes during daytime, while the victims were working. The researchers narrowed the fence on a criminal group that used a very specific technique to open the doors of the houses, called, which allows them to force a lock although the door has been closed with double turn of the key. It is a technique that leaves no signal at the doors of having been forced, because it does not exert pressure or damage to the locks.
After a surveillance work on housing during daytime, thieves played the bell to make sure there was no one inside and, once inside, in just 30 or 40 minutes they mainly stole jewels, bags and perfumes, always avoiding electronic devices so as not to be tracked. In many of the houses they entered dresses with uniforms of maintenance or food distributors with the intention of hiding and confusing the neighbors in case of being discovered.
According to police investigation, group members did not work all at the same time in robberies and had their well -defined functions. Some were dedicated to identifying the homes and were responsible for carrying a vehicle with all the necessary tools to commit crimes and park it nearby to flee from the place. The rest of its components was dedicated to monitoring the floors while the robberies were carried out and of giving the alarm in case of being discovered. The professionalization of the members of this was such that some of the robberies were not denounced until many days after they had occurred, because the only trace they left behind was the subtraction of value objects.
Caught in fraganti
The operation to dismantle the band was carried out last August once the police investigators had identified all the members of the group. After locating one of the detainees aboard a vehicle, the members of the police surveillance team followed him to a street in the center of Palma where they also managed to identify several members of the organization who had parked their vehicles nearby to cover those who were going to enter the house.
After taking out a backpack with tools from the trunk, one of the group’s components went to a portal on the same street to pave one of the houses. In parallel, abroad, the police officers in charge of the follow -up intercepted the conversations between the band members, which were instructed on the movements of the neighbors and the pedestrians.
After about 40 minutes, the police saw one of the band members out of the building, which they managed to stop before he reached a vehicle in which another of the group’s members expected to help him flee. The thieves tried to get rid of a backpack with the stolen material: more than 9,000 euros in tickets, watches, jewelry, colonies and brand glasses. After the arrest of the seven members of the organization, the police seized several records in their homes of a large number of decoding tools, master keys and cash. One of the detainees is also involved in a case of scams in the peninsula.
