Shipments to the US retreated 46% after Donald Trump’s tariff; Germany was the main destination
Brazil exported 3.14 million bags of coffee in August 2025, a 17.5% drop in the same month of 2024, according to data from (Coffee Exporters Council).
Despite the volume retraction, exchange rate revenue advanced 12.7% in the period, reaching US $ 1.1 billion, driven by discharge in international quotes.
Tariff Impacts
The retreat was already expected by the sector, which came from records last year and faced a smaller crop. The impact was intensified by the Brazilian coffee exports.
In August, the United States was no longer the largest buyer of Brazilian coffee, with imports of 301,000 bags, 46% less than in the same period of 2024 and 26% less than July 2025.
The post went to Germany, which bought 414,000 bags.
The president of Cecafé, Márcio Ferreira pointed out that US taxation also affected international prices.
From 7 August (when the fare came into force) by the end of the month, Arabica coffee rose 29.7% on the New York Stock Exchange, from $ 2,978 to $ 3,861 per pound.
“Fundamentals are already favorable for discharge there are some harvests, with very adjusted offer and demand or even with offer deficit, due to climate adversities in the main producers, especially in Brazil, but the tariff disordered the market and opened for speculative movements.”these.
According to him, if the measure persists, in addition to making exports to the US, US consumers will face higher prices, as there is no sufficient alternative offer in the market.
