Urban ‘escapadinhas’ remain one of the favorite options of Europeans, but the most sought after destinations do not always coincide with those who offer the best experiences, so it is important to know how to choose the city where to go. A new study analyzed several and brought surprises, placing out of the podium metropolises as famous as Paris, Madrid or Barcelona.
The inquiry, carried out by the Which Consumer Association? and quoted by the British newspaper The Mirror, along with 1,600 travelers, evaluated the cities according to seven criteria: gastronomy and beverages, accommodation, cultural attractions, trade, transport, crowds and quality-price relationship.
Krakow at the top of the list
The Polish city of Krakow won first place, distinguishing itself by cultural richness and the welcoming environment. Soon after, Venice arises in Italy, which despite the crowds continues to fascinate for their history and unique heritage.
The third place was up to Valencia, a city that surpassed other renowned Spanish destinations, including Madrid and Barcelona, when it comes to ‘escapadinhas’.
Valence
Valencia, the third largest city in Spain, is now recognized for its diverse gastronomic scene. From restaurants with Michelin star to the typical pawn houses, the city has obtained the maximum score on the gastronomy criterion, according to the same source.
Also in transportation and ease of circulation was well classified, thanks to affordable connections and streets designed for pedestrians.
In addition, it emerges as one of Spain’s most economical cities, along with Malaga, with the average price of the accommodation around 124 euros per night.
Who say travelers
Tourists, cited by the same source, highlight the medieval historic center, traditional markets and narrow life -full streets. One of the inquiry participants summed up: “Valencia has everything. Medieval center, striking architecture, narrow streets and old markets.”
Another visitor added: “It is very interesting to lose yourself through the streets of Valencia’s old town, discover historical squares and facades and stop anywhere to drink or eat. There is no place in Valencia where you don’t eat well.”
