Explosion leaves 21 injured in Madrid, 3 in serious condition

An explosion in what appears to be a bar or coffee in the Spanish capital, Madrid, left at least 21 people injured on Saturday, three of them seriously, emergency services reported.

The explosion took place at 15h (11am GMT) in Vallecas, a central south district of Madrid, according to emergency services.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

There were members of Civil Protection, 17 firefighters, as well as several units of the medical emergency service of the community of Madrid.

Firefighters were still located at the scene, as were the police to guide traffic in the immediate vicinity.
