About 800 Gazatis are welcomed in the Spanish International Protection System

The Spanish reception system currently hosts about 800 Gazatis, according to data provided by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration to Europa Press. These same sources have specified that 785 are within the official humanitarian care programs and, especially, international protection.

Thus, in the month of February of this 2025, the people who had fled from Gaza and the West Bank who were in the host system of Spain were half a thousand. Likewise, along the same lines, at 785 the Gazaties are added that are being treated through a Special program led by the Ministry of Healthin coordination with other ministries, which focuses on the treatment of sick children and their families.

These people are granted an extraordinary authorization of three months. After that period, they may request asylum and, if so, they will automatically become part of the international protection program.

Precisely, this Tuesday, the Government has approved in the Council of Ministers a New Emergency Declarationthe fourth of these characteristics, to serve sick or injured Gazati children. Thus, it allows the provision of services and acquisition of basic and essential supplies for the attention of people, especially children, from Gaza.

The actions included in this emergency declaration include transport services, temporary reception (accommodation, maintenance and coverage of other basic needs), social accompaniment and intervention, psychological, legal care, translation and interpretation.

“A safe and dignified environment”

“This measure not only guarantees the continuity of essential medical treatments in Spanish territory, but also offers the possibility that these minors, together with their relatives, find a safe and worthy environment in which to rebuild their lives after having lived the horror of war,” said the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migrations, Elma Saiz, on the occasion of this new statement.

As reported in August, Spain has served 44 minor Gazati wounded or sick since July 2024 to receive medical care. Specifically, since July 2024, The Government has completed four humanitarian operations which have allowed evacuating 44 injured or sick Gazati minors with their relatives. These have been referred to Catalonia, Basque Country, Navarra, Asturias, Madrid and Toledo, to receive medical treatments.
