Requestments were sent to Minister Alexandre de Moraes; Defense has asked these meetings to be frequent, on a weekly basis, to address ‘institutional and political articulation issues’
The defense of the former president filed new requests for authorization for political visits during the fulfillment of his house arrest. The requirements were referred to the minister, rapporteur of the criminal action who sentenced Bolsonaro for an attempted coup.
Among the requests, it draws attention to that of Deputy Rodrigo Valadares (União Brasil-SE), rapporteur of the Amnesty PEC in the Constitution and Justice Commission of the House. The project, defended by the opposition, provides broad amnesty to the convicts of the acts of January 8, 2023. According to Bolsonaro’s lawyers, the visit would be necessary for a “personal dialogue” on the subject.
Visits were also requested by PL President Valdemar Costa Neto, PL leader in the House, Sostenes Cavalcante, and Senate opposition leader Rogério Marinho (PL-RN). The defense has asked these meetings to be frequent, weekly, to address “institutional and political articulation issues”. Moraes had already denied, last week, a request for unrestricted visits, without the need for prior authorization from the Supreme Court. Now, he must individually evaluate the new requests. There is no formal deadline for the decision, but, according to the minister’s practice, the expectation is to respond today or until tomorrow.
In addition to visits, the lawsuit against Bolsonaro advances. This Monday (15) the deadline for the Attorney General’s Office to submit the final allegations against the so-called “core 3” of the complaint, a majority formed by active and reserve military, as well as a federal police. This group is accused of planning tactical actions to prevent the possession of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and even prepare attacks against authorities. After the PGR manifestation, the defendants will have 15 days to submit their considerations. The expectation in the Supreme Court is that all nuclei in the process will be tried in 2025.
Meanwhile, in Congress, the opposition presses for the vote on the amnesty PEC. Analysts, however, evaluate that a possible proposal with a chance to move forward should benefit only convicted for the acts of January 8, without including Bolsonaro. Recent research also indicates that the majority of the population is contrary to a broad amnesty.
