Court denies Trump’s request to dismiss Fed Director

The United States Appeals Court of the Columbia Circuit denied on Monday (15.Set.2025) the request for (Republican Party) to dismiss, director of (Federal Reserve), the US Central Bank. It is the first time since the institution’s creation in 1913 that a president tries to remove a director from office.

According to the Court’s decision allows Cook to attend the Monetary Policy meetings of the Fed, scheduled for this 3rd (16.set) and Wednesday (17.Set). The agency is expected to reduce US interest rates to support a decline labor market.

On Sunday (14.Set), the White House by presenting a document to the Washington Circuit Appeals. In the text, the government argued that Trump’s decision to withdraw from office “For just cause” It was legitimate and was not subject to judicial revision.

The Court of Appeals, however, rejected the court’s request to temporarily suspend the order of a judge that prevented Trump from removing Cook. Trump management must appeal the decision to the US Supreme Court.

Trump announced on August 26, saying she committed mortgage fraud. Cook denied the accusation, stated that the Republican has no authority to remove it from office and refused to resign. She also entered with one against the US President.

On September 9, Trump Justice to resign. The decision states that Cook remains on the US Central Bank Council until the case is analyzed in detail and may continue to perform its duties during this period.

The controversy began after the director of the US FEDERAL HOUSING FINANCING AGENCY (FHA), Bill Pulte, stating that Cook declared as a main residence an apartment in Atlanta, after having already obtained a similar loan for his home in Michigan – also recorded as the main residence. Pulte said the agency is investigating a 3rd property belonging to the economist, located in Massachusetts. According to him, the loans date from mid -2021, before his appointment to the Fed.

Laying for main residence often has more favorable conditions than those focused on second residences or investment properties.

The clash takes place in a moment of tension between the White House and the US Central Bank. Trump to reduce interest rates and criticized Jerome Powell, president of the body, demanding his resignation. On Monday (15.set), that of the Republican to the council of Fed Governors ,.

Lisa Cook is the 1st black woman to act as governor on the Fed Council in her 110 years of history. She was nominated in 2022 by the then president (Democratic Party), with a mandate until 2038. Before joining the Fed, she was a professor of economics and international relations at Michigan State University.
