Israeli military operation in Gaza, according to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, is absolutely unacceptable. At the same time, Türk called on Tuesday to end the “massacre” and pointed out the increasing number of evidence of the commitment of genocide in the Palestinian territory. According to the AFP report, TASR reports this.

“It is absolutely obvious that this massacre must end,” Türk responded to questions about the beginning of the ground operation of the Israeli army in Gaza. Its start on Tuesday was confirmed by the Israeli army and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Calling after peace

“The whole world is calling for peace. Palestinians, Israelis call for peace. Everyone wants it to end, and what we see is another escalation, which is totally and absolutely unacceptable,” he said.

The UN Commissioner noted that in recent days there was an escalation of attacks in the northwest parts of Gaza, where the population resorted to previous attacks.

At the same time, he condemned the ongoing bombing of residential buildings, buildings that he said they served as a shelter for people who were displaced several times. “These attacks must end,” he said.

According to him, the Israeli army “repeatedly argued that the target for the so -called terrorist infrastructure”. “So far we have not seen any evidence about it,” he said, adding that according to the rules of war the attack must never be focused on civilians who do not participate in enemy actions.

Humanitarian crisis

Gaza’s inhabitants cannot bear further intensifying the violence and destruction and killing and lack of the necessary humanitarian aid, Türk said. “I can only imagine what it means for women, malnourished children, for people with disabilities if they are again attacked,” he continued.

Türk thus said after the UN Human Rights Council investigators (UNRC) said on Tuesday that they concluded that Israel has been committed since October 2023 in the Palestinian Gaza Genocide zone with the intention of destroying Palestinians.

According to Türk, we are witnessing “the accumulation of war crime for war crime, crime against humanity and potentially even worse”. He noted that the court must decide whether it is a genocide, but the evidence accumulates.
