Charges for the murder of the far -right activist against 22 -year -old Tyler Robinson was announced by the Jute prosecutors. Robinson is accused of aggravating evidence and, according to the prosecutor’s office, will seek to enforce it.
Seven categories against Robinson and death penalty
County Prosecutor Utah, Jeffrey Gray, said in a press conference that his office had previously filed seven charges against Robinson, including obstructing justice for his attempt to destroy or hide evidence.
Gray said the decision to pursue the death conviction was taken “independently and based solely on the available evidence, conditions and the nature of the crime”.
The items listed in the indictment
Robinson told his roommate, in which Utah’s ruler, Spencer Cox, had previously been referred to as a “erotic partner”, that Robinson had killed Kerk because “he could no longer withstand his hatred” and that “hatred is not overwhelmed”.
According to the indictment, the suspect also told the roommate that he had planned the attack for more than a week.
In addition, as the prosecution said, the DNA found in the trigger of what the authorities believe was the weapon of the murder was that of Robinson.
Prosecutors have added aggravating factors to the charges of murder and guns, because it is believed that Robinson targeted Kerk on the basis of political views and knew that the murder would be seen by young children.
According to state law, only murder with additional aggravating evidence can bring about the death penalty.
Storm of reactions even though the motivation has not been made known
The murder, recorded in a viral video on the internet, triggered complaints of political violence from across the ideological spectrum, caused a wave of responsibility between the parties and concerns that the murder of Kerk could open a new cycle of violence.
Authorities have not made public the motive for the murder, although Kerk’s wife and his supporters hastened to describe him as a witness for their purpose.
The time
Kerk, the 31 -year -old co -founder and head of the Conservative Student Student movement Turning Point USA and President Donald Trump’s main ally, spoke at an event attended by 3,000 people when he was shot.
The suspect fled, taking advantage of the firing pandemonium.
He was arrested on Thursday night at his parents’ home, about 420 kilometers southwest of the crime scene, after relatives and a family friend alerted authorities that Robinson had been involved in the shootings, according to Governor Spencer Cox.
Robinson was scheduled to appear in court via video from prison on Tuesday afternoon (USA).
Cox had stated that the state would be willing to pursue the death penalty if Robinson was convicted, but that prosecutors would take into account the wishes of the Kerk family before making that decision.
