Federal Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, has been in the US since February

The federal deputy (PL-SP), son of the former president did not participate in the vote on the urgent request of the Amnesty Bill, which may benefit his father and others involved in the acts of 8 January. Despite being in Since February, Eduardo could have voted remotely, as the Chamber of Deputies session was semi -presential.

On social networks, the parliamentarian claimed technical difficulties to justify the absence.
“Today, as a minority leader, I keep having the same problem and thus I cannot vote in favor of the amnesty urgent request. But I leave here my vote, as well as send formal letter communicating the mayor, Hugo Motta,” he wrote.

Eduardo took 120 days of license for “health treatment” and, since the end of the removal, has accumulated 23 faults in sessions. The Constitution provides for a mandate for parliamentarians who are missing more than one third of the ordinary sessions, except in cases of official license or mission. In recent weeks, the Bolsonaro family has intensified the mobilization for approval of the project, especially after the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and 3 months in prison for attempted coup, determined by the Supreme Court (STF).

On Tuesday (16), the PL appointed Eduardo Bolsonaro as the new minority leader in the House, replacing Mrs Caroline de Toni (PL-SC), who resigned to the post. In a statement on social networks, Caroline said:
“I would like to communicate to everyone my resignation to the leadership of the Minority of the House of Representatives, to transfer this responsibility to Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro.”

Behind the scenes, the nomination is interpreted as a way to shield the parliamentarian of possible processes due to decorum due to absences. As a leader, Eduardo now has greater political and institutional space to justify his performance, even at a distance.
