Venezuela launched a large-scale military exercises on its Caribbean Island of La Orchila on Wednesday (17), mobilizing thousands of troops in what the authorities described as a defensive response to US military activity in the region.
The troops are participating in the three -day exercises, called, supported by war ships, aircraft, militia boats and artillery.
The exercises included nightlife demonstrations of military firepower, with Venezuelan forces firing Igla-S anti-aircraft missiles and heavy artillery.
Video images released by the Ministry of Communication showed Sukhoi-30 fighters and helicopters performing flyers, while amphibian tanks landed on the beach while soldiers secured positions along the coast.
The military demonstration occurs amid the escalating regional tensions after US forces explode at least two Venezuelan boats this month, killing a total of 14 people who allegedly transported drugs through the Caribbean.
