This Thursday (18), Paulinho stated that a broad, general and unrestricted amnesty, as Bolsonaro’s allies intend, is “impossible.”
“I think we’ll have to do something in the middle, which may not like the far right or the far left, but it pleases most of the camera,” he said.

January 8
“Bolsonarists have just invaded the National Congress demanding military intervention. We need urgent measures to contain this act and preserve our democracy. We cannot confuse freedom of expression with coup,” Paulinho wrote on social network X on January 8, 2023.
“They destroyed and looted objects from the three powers: Congress, Planalto and STF. This is a crime!” He also said at the time.
On the same day, Paulinho called “terrorists” the participants of the acts. “Lula decrees intervention in the Federal District until January 31st. This is an important measure to contain the terrorists,” he said.
Lula
In the 2022 election campaign, Solidarity, Paulinho’s party, was one of the acronyms that joined the petista’s coalition. Both the deputy and the subtitle, however, moved away from the government later.
“The government is completely crazy. And the team is bad. It has no dialogue, the president does not talk to anyone. The president was locked at home,” Paulinho told CNN in February this year.
On social networks, he usually publishes critical videos to the petista. “Since the beginning of the government increasing tax, neglecting the economy and trying to deceive people. The people tired of you, Lula,” he published in June.
In an interview with Jovem Pan, he indicated that he should not support Lula in 2026. “We will work to build a center candidacy, from downtown to the right,” he said.
Bolsonaro
In 2019, Paulinho stated at an event on May 1 that the country needed a pension reform “that does not guarantee Bolsonaro’s reelection”, then president of the Republic.
In the municipal election of 2024, in São Paulo, the deputy and Bolsonaro supported the reelection of Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB). The parliamentarian, however, told O Globo newspaper that the former president’s presence in the campaign hindered Nunes because of his rejection.
Alexandre de Moraes
Paulinho has close relationship with Moraes. This Thursday (18), at a news conference in Brasilia, the parliamentarian recognized this proximity and said he has known the magistrate since he was a lawyer in Sao Paulo.
“I have a relationship since when he was just an old lawyer, and from Sao Paulo. I think he is one of the we can talk,” he said. The deputy also said he had “a relationship close to them all [do STF]”.
In 2022, Paulinho was not reelected federal deputy. He became the first alternate of solidarity. The first place on the subtitle plate was Marcelo Lima, who in 2023 exchanged the party for the PSB.
Given this, Paulinho called the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), which was chaired by Moraes, alleging party infidelity. The court’s plenary ruled 5-2 the mandate of Marcelo Lima, now removed from the position of mayor of São Bernardo do Campo (SP) after corruption scandal. Among the favorable votes for the cassation was Moraes.
