President of the Parish Council earns more than 'imagine'? See salaries for 2025

On October 12, voters return to the polls to choose the presidents of the parish councils from North to South of the country. But how much, how much does those who assume this local position? According to the latest data from the municipal portal, updated to 2025, the salary of joint presidents varies depending on the number of parish voters and the regime in which they perform functions.

Levels defined by the number of voters

According to the official information, cited by News to the Minute, the amount of the remuneration is based on the voters registered in the parish at the date of the last overall overall elections. There are five levels: parishes with 20,000 or more voters, parishes between 10,000 and less than 20,000 voters, parishes with 7,000 voters and 100 km2, parishes between 5,000 and 10,000 voters and, lastly, those with less than 5,000 voters.

The remuneration increases according to the number of voters, like what happens in the city councils.

Full -time president

In the case of the most populous parishes, with more than 20,000 voters, an exclusive president, 2,092.53 euros per month, adding 627.76 euros of representation expenses. The amount corresponds to 25% of the salary of the President of the Republic, which in 2025 is 8,370.14 euros.

If you choose to exercise non -exclusivity, as the same source explains, the compensation is halved, becoming 1,046.27 euros, with representation expenses set at 313.88 euros.

In the smaller parishes, the values ​​descend: in joints with less than 5,000 voters, an exclusive president receives 1,339.22 euros per month, with representation expenses of 401.77 euros.

Half a time or not permanence

In the smaller parishes, news explains to the minute that the exercise of the position can be done in a half -time regime, with half of the forecast remuneration for the time, maintaining the payment of two extraordinary subsidies annual (June and November).

In a regime of non -permanence, the law provides for specific compensation. The president receives a percentage of the remuneration of the mayor of a municipality with up to 10,000 voters. By 2025, this value is 401.88 euros monthly for larger parishes, going down up to 301.41 euros for the smallest.

Other rights and charges

In addition to the remuneration and representation expenses, the presidents of the board are also entitled to meal allowance (6 euros per day), contributions to social security and coverage of additional charges provided for by law.

The updated remuneration framework was defined in accordance with Decree-Law No. 11/96 of 18 April, and its changes, establishing the regime applicable to the local elected, as explained.

A paper with local weight

Although the values ​​are far from the remuneration of the city councils, the role of president of the Board remains one of the most relevant to the daily lives of citizens. Proximity to populations makes this position seen as the first line of local power, responsible for basic services, social support and maintenance of public spaces.
