The Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelenski, hopes to obtain in his visit next week to New York from his American counterpart, Donald Trump, a clear support for postwar security guarantees for Ukraine that for now they have committed to offer more than twenty European countries.
“We have prepared the foundation for security guarantees that is willing to offer Europe, counting on the fact that the US is added,” Zelenski said in a meeting with journalists in which Efe participated when he was asked about what he expects from the meeting he has to maintain with Trump on the banks of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Ukrainian President referred to the meeting they held this week Trump and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, in which both leaders dealt with the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelenski added that he plans to hold numerous bilateral meetings in New York with leaders from different countries, and said he hopes to receive “signals” of all his allies, including the USA.
According to the president, kyiv and his allies are close to reaching an agreement to provide Ukraine with the security guarantees he needs.
Twenty -six allies of Ukraine, fundamentally European, committed themselves earlier this month to provide the country with security guarantees once this war ends to prevent Russia from invading its territory.
