President Donald Trump’s “border tsar”, Tom Homan, accepted a $ 50,000 package from a FBI disguised agent last year in an US Department of Justice bribe investigation, two sources said familiar on Sunday.

In the alleged scheme, Homan promised immigration -related government contracts when he joined the Trump government in exchange for money, the sources said, speaking anonymous to discuss non -public investigations.

FBI director Kash Patel ordered the closing of the investigation during the summer, said one of the sources. It was not possible to contact Homan to comment on the topic.

“This matter originated in the previous government and underwent a complete analysis by FBI agents and justice department prosecutors. They found no reliable evidence of any criminal irregularity,” Patel said and assistant attorney Todd Blanche in a statement on Sunday.

“Department resources must remain concentrated in real threats to the US people, not unfounded investigations. As a result, the investigation was closed.”

The Homan investigation began around August 2024, near the end of the government of former US President Joe Biden and resulted from a separate national security investigation, one of the sources told Reuters.

In this unresolved investigation, the target repeatedly mentioned Homan, saying that he was collecting bribes in exchange for future contracts with the government, both sources told Reuters.

A secret operation was assembled, and Homan was caught in a recording accepting a bribe of $ 50,000 in a cava restaurant bag, the sources said.

Homan supervises the Trump government campaign for mass deportation of people in the country illegally. The White House said he was not involved in granting any contract.

“He is a career policeman and a longtime civil servant who is doing a phenomenal work on behalf of President Trump and the country,” said Abigail Jackson, White House Press Secretary in a statement.

An investigation of Homan jury in the western district of Texas was still in its early stages when Trump returned to the White House in January, the sources said.

Homan was an employee of the US Immigration and Customs Department during the government of President Barack Obama and his interim director during Trump’s first term.

During Trump’s four years out of power, Homan ran a consulting business to help companies get government -related government contracts.

The investigation now closed on Homan was previously reported by MSNBC.
