Senator Alan Rick was one of those honored at the Power Dinner – Magna Edition, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras), during the Abras’25 Food Retail Future. The meeting brought together the main leaders of the country’s food retail and featured authorities such as Vice President Geraldo Alckmin who participated in a video conferencing (the plane did not land due to bad weather in Campinas), as well as deputies and senators Alan Rick and Efraim Filho.

In his speech, Alan Rick highlighted the approval of Bill No. 2,874/2019, his rapporteur, which establishes the National Policy to Combat Food Loss and Waste (PNCPDA). The new legislation establishes clear rules for food donation, guarantees donor legal certainty and creates incentive mechanisms such as tax benefits and the food donor seal.
The senator stressed that the measure was urgent, as the lack of legal certainty led many companies to discard food, suitable for consumption, to avoid taxation, instead of donating them. “The country that feeds the world still lives with millions of hungry. We work to transform waste into dignity, creating conditions for supermarkets and companies to donate without fear of penalties or legal insecurity.”
Alan Rick also acknowledged the importance of the supermarket sector, which represents more than $ 1 trillion of GDP and employs about 9 million Brazilians, calling it “showcase of modernity and the country’s productive force”.
In conclusion, he emphasized that the sanction of the law is “only the beginning”, arguing that Brazil needs to unite technology, efficiency and social justice.

“We hope this will be a milestone for many other victories against hunger. Brazil we want is technology in the field, retail efficiency, but, above all, social justice at the worker’s table.”
