CAS upheld FIFA’s decision and increased compensation to the Paraguayan midfielder; Club has 45 days to pay off debt
The (arbitration cut of sport) sentenced on Tuesday (23.Set.2025) OA to pay R $ 41.3 million to the Paraguayan midfielder Matías Rojas. The decision upheld FIFA’s previous conviction, increasing the amount of compensation. The São Paulo club has 45 days to pay off the debt or will suffer a new transfer ban, impediment to register players.
With the incidence of interest since last year, the total amount of debt reaches approximately R $ 45 million today. The amount corresponds to what Rojas would receive until June 2027, the expected date for the termination of his contract with Corinthians.
The dispute began when the player unilaterally terminated his bond with Corinthians last year, alleging delays in the payment of imaging rights, which make up part of the athletes’ remuneration. The club had already been convicted by FIFA, but resorted to CAS, the last instance of sports law.
In early 2024, Corinthians recognized a debt of about $ 8 million with Rojas. At the time, the club pledged to pay the full amount of the contract if there was a new delay in payments, which eventually happened.
Hired in mid -2023, Paraguayan played in 30 matches for Corinthians and did not score goals before leaving the team. Rojas currently defends the US Portland.
According to Globo Esporte, the Corinthians board recently sought lawyer Rafael Botelho of PVBT Law, which represents Matías Rojas, to try a friendly agreement in Sao Paulo. The player’s staff showed opening for negotiations, but the conversations are still in the early stages.
Corinthians is already prevented from registering players because of the hiring of the player Felix Torres.
In addition to the Rojas case, Corinthians awaits CAS decisions in 2 other cases. In both, the club has already been convicted by FIFA and resorted to the Swiss court. One of them involves US $ 4,334,400 (equivalent to R $ 22.7 million) due to Argentina Tallers for hiring midfielder Rodrigo Garro. The other process refers to 1.075 million euros due to Ukraine Shakhtar Donetsk for midfielder Maycon loan.
