The minister Edson Fachin takes office as president of the Supreme Court (STF) on Monday (29) In ceremony of solemnity with the presence of authorities and a rite marked by speeches, signing of possession and changing chairs.
At the same ceremony, Minister Alexandre de Moraes will take office as Vice-President of the Supreme Court.
In addition to taking command of the Supreme, Fachin will preside over the CNJ (National Council of Justice). He will be at the head of the Court and the Board in Biennium 2025-2027, succeeding Minister Luis Roberto Barroso.
The inauguration ceremony is expected to start at 16h. The session will be opened by the current president of the Supreme Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, and then the National Anthem will be performed. Then the Commitment Term and the Possession Term for the position of President of the Court will be read.
Subsequently, there will be the signing of the term of office of the new president and the declaration of the position. The ceremony also foresees a compliance between Barroso and Fachin and then there is the exchange of places of the chairs that make up the court. The president’s place is at the center of the Plenary.
Sequentially, the new president will conduct the session and give the Vice-President Alexandre de Moraes inauguration and the readings, signatures and greetings should be repeated.
Already in the final stages, will be made pronouncements of Barroso, PGR (Attorney General of the Republic) Paulo Gonet, the representative of the OAB and new president Edson Fachin, who will end the solemn session.
