If Congress does not approve a budget, hundreds of thousands of civil servants will be temporarily without receiving their salaries and many social benefits will be interrupted
The president of the, said on Tuesday that “probably” there will be a stoppage of the US government, blaming the Democrats for the impasse in negotiations with the Republicans about a financing agreement.
“We’ll probably have a stoppage,” Trump told reporters at the Oval Hall a few hours before midnight deadline for an agreement. Republicamo stated that “nothing is inevitable, but I would say it is likely” and that “they will paralyze the government, not us. We do not want to stop because we are living the best period of all time,” he added.
If Congress does not approve a budget, even temporary, until midnight on Tuesday, the United States will face a shutdown, which will paralyze most federal services. Hundreds of thousands of civil servants will be temporarily without receiving their salaries and many social benefits will be interrupted.
“We can do things during the stoppage that are irreversible, which are bad for them …, like firing many people or cutting things they like,” Trump said, referring to the Democrats.
Democrats are a minority in Congress, but the extent of public spending that Republicans want to approve by the end of November requires seven additional votes in the Senate, and these votes must come from the opposition.
