Brazil and USA work to organize face -to -face meeting between presidents Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Donald Trump, with the possibility of the meeting to take place in a third country, according to multiple Brazilian employees familiar with the situation.
The Brazilian government sees the summit of the Southeast Asian Nations Association (Asean), which will take place this month, as an ideal place for conversations, said the employees, who asked for anonymity to discuss sensitive issues.
The ASEAN meeting, which will take place in Malaysia from October 26, would provide an opportunity for conflict leaders to meet in a neutral place instead of the White House or Brasilia, said one of the employees.

A White House representative confirmed that conversations about a possible face -to -face meeting are underway.
Relations between the US and Brazil have deteriorated accentuated in recent months, after and, from the Federal Supreme Court, in an attempt to prevent the trial of former President Jair Bolsonaro ,.
But signs of a possible loosening came after a brief meeting at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last week, when they discussed a meeting to talk about their differences.

Trump has not yet officially confirmed his participation in the Asean summit, but he is expected to visit Malaysia as part of a trip to Asia that would also include stops in Japan and South Korea. Lula will go to Kuala Lumpur after a state visit to Indonesia, part of his efforts to deepen commercial ties with the region.
A meeting with Trump is a top priority for Lula, according to two employees familiar with the situation. But the Brazilian leader is also focused on ensuring that the meeting is effective, and wants to make sure he will have enough data and information to present Trump before scheduling the meeting, said one of the employees.
Brazil’s Foreign Minister, Mauro Vieira, said on Wednesday that he talked to Trump’s advisers about a possible meeting, and suggested that he could occur in a third country.

“It can be a telephone call, a video, as well as a meeting at a specific time when both are present at the same international event,” said Vieira during an appearance in Congress, adding that there are currently no arrangements for Trump to visit Brazil or for a trip from Lula to Washington.
