One of the most famous and translated Czech writers was only last month – 14 September – 94 years.
During his life he wrote more than 20 books And his works were translated into approximately 30 languages, including Chinese, Greek or Estonian. The personal and creative life of the Czech writer significantly influenced the political events in the 20th century. He spent three and a half years in the Terezin concentration camp for his Jewish origin during World War II.
He also experienced restrictions and persecutions in the period of the totalitarian communist regime in the former Czechoslovakia, when he found himself on the list of forbidden authors since 1970. Maybe that’s why he called his two -volume book memoirs my miserable tables.
