Donald Trump’s government officials proposed the creation of a $ 1 commemorative currency with the former president’s image to mark the 250th anniversary of US Independence in 2026. The initiative, however, may conflict with US legislation.

On Friday (3), circulated images of draft of the proposal. On one side of the coin, Trump’s profile appears, accompanied by the inscriptions “Freedom”, “In God we trust” and “1776-2026”. On the back, the former president comes up, with a right fist in front of a US flag and the phrase “Fight, Fight, Fight”, in reference to the attempted murder suffered during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 2024.
The American treasurer, Brandon Beach, confirmed the proposal in a publication on the X (former Twitter). “Without fake news here. These first drafts in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States and Trump are real. Looking forward to sharing more soon, as soon as the government’s obstructionist stoppage is over.”he wrote.
The law passed in 2020 authorizes the Treasury Department to coin commemorative coins of $ 1 for the US semi-combinal, provided they present “emblematic designs.” However, the United States Code states that only portraits of deceased people can appear in official coins and titles.
In addition, the standard prohibits the use of busts or portraits of living individuals anywhere in the 250th anniversary currencies, which could invalidate the project if the use of Trump’s image is confirmed on both sides. The proposal was initially reported by The Washington Post.
