The Federal Supreme Court (STF) restored this Thursday (2) the validity of Resolution 2,427/2025 of the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM), which regulates health care to trans’s people in Brazil. The decision of Minister Flávio Dino temporarily overthrows the Federal Court of Acre that had suspended the norm.

CFM resolution changes rules on hormonal blockers and sexual reassignment surgeries. Now, the use of hormonal blockers is only allowed from the age of 18, while sex change surgeries can only be performed from 21 years.
The standard also revoked previous documents that authorized experimental tests in children and adolescents, including research protocols, such as those performed at the Gender Identity Disorder and Sexual Orientation Outpatient Clinic (AMTIGOS) at the USP Hospital das Clínicas.

The Supreme Court has determined that the decision is worth until the action filed by the National Association of Transvestites and Transsexuals (Antra) and the Brazilian Institute of Transmasculinities (Ibrat) is judged in plenary. The entities question the resolution, classifying it as “transphobic” and arguing that it restricts rights already previously guaranteed.
The standard also establishes criteria on specialized medical care: trans people with female sexual organs should be accompanied by gynecologists, while those with male sexual organs should be attended by urologists. The measure seeks to standardize and professionalize care to the trans population across the country, including acrean patients.
CFM experts point to risks in the application of hormonal blockers in children and adolescents. In an article published in the journal Nature, doctors emphasize that recent scientific reviews indicate a low level of evidence about the safety of these treatments in youth.
