Finance Minister Fernando Haddad said on Monday that he sees “great sympathy” from Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP) for the bill that expands the exemption from Income Tax (IR), approved last week.
“I did not talk to David Alcolumbre about it, but I saw great sympathy for the measure. The Senate voted in the Commission of Economic Affairs a very similar project. Given what the senators expressed, I am sure that the Senate will do exactly what the House did,” said the minister, in an interview with TV Record.
On the night of last Wednesday, 1st, the House plenary approved the IR project unanimously, pursuant to the report of Deputy Arthur Lira (PP-AL). All benches guided favorably to the text, including opposition and parties that questioned the compensation of the text, such as the new and the PL. In all, there were 493 votes for the text and no opposite. Now the text follows for the appreciation of the senators.

Haddad has again said that President Lula will sanction the new IR law this month. “I said and I will repeat that Lula sanctions the IR law in October,” he said.
“People who earn $ 5,000, $ 6,000, $ 7,000 are paying tax, and who earns more than $ 1 million a year pays less. Someone had the courage to start moving,” he continued. He further argued that the measure is fiscally neutral: “The tax is coming out of one place and going to another. There are several actions to seek some equal opportunities in Brazil.”
Some excerpts from the minister’s interview were released on the website R7 In the late afternoon of Monday, shortly after the recording. THE Record News will convey the full interview from 10:30 pm today. From 19h the station should display sections.
