The government is planning to provide $ 2,500 financial aid to teenagers who voluntarily choose to return to their countries of origin, according to an internal federal administration document, CBS News said.
In a statement sent by the Ministry of Health and Human Services on Friday (3/10), it was reported that the US Ministry of Homeland will provide a one -off aid “with the aim of reintegrating” to unaccompanied immigrants over 14 years of age who choose to return to their country.
This offer is exclusively for minors under the jurisdiction of the refugee office in the Ministry of Health, which is legally obliged to place them in shelters, foster families and other institutions until they are 18 years old or a suitable guardian. Children from Mexico are not covered by this measure.
According to US authorities, most of the minors who crossed the border alone come from Central America without parents or legal guardians.
The voluntary return is a special legal procedure that must be approved by the competent judicial authorities and the $ 2,500 grant is paid only after the application is approved and the child’s arrival in his or her country.
The Ice and Customs Service states that the program will first offer 17 -year -olds, stressing that it gives them the opportunity to make choices and make “up -to -date decisions for their future”.
