China is targeting the European market as part of its global expansion strategy in autonomous driving technology. Chinese companies operating in the sector, which face blockages in United States, are accelerating their entry into Europe.

These companies have established headquarters, signed data agreements and carried out tests on European roads, using the continent as a starting point for their global expansion.

The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called on Friday (October 3, 2025) for an effort for Europe to develop its own autonomous vehicles.

“Autonomous cars are already a reality in the United States and China. The same should be true here in Europe”afirmou von der Leyen.

The European leader proposed the creation of a network of cities on the continent to test autonomous vehicles, an initiative that has already seen interest expressed by 60 Italian mayors.

During the event in Italy, von der Leyen defended a priority approach to artificial intelligence in strategic sectors, with a special focus on mobility.
