The Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG) announced, this Thursday (8), the athletes selected to represent Brazil in the World Cup in the category. The tournament takes place from October 19th to 25th in Jakarta, Indonesia.
The main competition on the calendar in 2025 will not feature Rebeca Andrade. The gymnast revealed, in August, that she would not participate in the competition, thinking about being better prepared for competitions in 2027, in addition to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, in 2028.
The women’s team will be based on Olympic medalists Flávia Saraiva and Julia Soares. Júlia Coutinho and Sophia Weisberg will be the other two gymnasts on the team.
The men’s team will feature Arthur Nory, Diogo Soares, Yuri Guimarães. The team will also have two gymnasts from Minas Tênis Clube: Caio Souza and Vitaliy Guimarães.
Hilton Dichelli, coordinator of the Brazilian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Team, commented on the competition. The professional classified the World Cup as an excellent opportunity to think about renewing the team.
“The first World Cup of each Olympic cycle always has the character of a restart, or a beginning. These are lighter competitions, in which no Olympic places are competed for. It is an excellent opportunity to renew teams, to see new faces, to resume competition after recoveries, showing new series, adapting to new refereeing codes. It is also the chance to get closer to our audience, to enjoy the sport and to enjoy,” he said.
Chico Porath, the Coordinator of the Brazilian National Team, also commented on the World Cup. He, who also trains Rebeca Andrade, explained how he arrived at the composition of the group for the competition.
“As soon as an edition of the Olympic Games ends, a new project begins to be designed. We have already said before that we have a renewed team coming, to join with the most experienced athletes. After everything we did this year, including selection processes carried out in a very correct and transparent way, we arrived at this group”, he assessed.
