Next Monday, October 13th, the mayor of Cruzeiro do Sul, Zequinha Lima, will officially inaugurate the João Machado da Silva Farmer’s Market, located in Bairro do Remanso. The new structure was built with resources from a parliamentary amendment by former federal deputy Perpétua Almeida, worth R$1.3 million, with a counterpart from the city hall of R$90,000.

The space was designed to strengthen family farming and boost the local economy. The market has 9 fixed commercial boxes, an administrative area, 60 central stalls aimed at farmers in rural communities, as well as a patio, parking and urban improvements in the surrounding area, such as reinforcement of public lighting.
According to the Deputy Secretary of Planning, Isaac Ibernon, the project was expanded upon guidance from the mayor, who requested the closure of the structure to ensure greater security. “This had an increase with its own resources of R$90 thousand. It will be one of the most visited markets in Cruzeiro do Sul and will be a source of income for more than 1,000 families indirectly”, highlighted Ibernon.
The Municipal Department of Agriculture will be responsible for organizing the central stalls, with a rotation system that should benefit around 80 families per week, promoting rotation and sales opportunities for small rural producers.
The new market pays homage to João Machado da Silva, a traditional figure in agriculture in the municipality, and reinforces the management’s commitment to sustainable development and the appreciation of local producers.
The inauguration ceremony should bring together authorities, representatives of rural communities and the general population.
