Crazy days in France: Macron reappoints Lecornu four days after his resignation

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu

“My mission is finished”? Two days later, Lecornu “accepts — out of duty — the mission entrusted to him”.

French President Emmanuel Macron reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as prime minister this Friday night, four days after his appointment, the French presidency said in a statement.

“I accept — out of duty — the mission entrusted to me”wrote Lecornu on the social network X, stating that the new Government “must embody renewal” and that “all issues raised” during consultations with political parties in recent days will be “open to parliamentary debate”.

The announcement of the French presidency was made without further details, after long negotiations to break the French political impasse, reported the agency France-Presse (AFP).

Lecornu left on September 9, leaving the Defense portfolio behind to take over as head of the Executive. However, it only lasted 27 days no charge. Just 12 hours After the Council of Ministers took office, Sébastien Lecornu and his government resigned.

Shortly after, on Wednesday, he himself said that President Emmanuel Macron could appoint a new head of Government “in the next 48 hours”.

“My mission is finished”declared Lecornu.
