The Italian court revoked the precautionary measure that prevented Eduardo Tagliaferro, former advisor to the minister of , from traveling around the country. However, he remains unable to leave the city.
With the decision, Tagliaferro is free to move around Italian territory. The information was released by lawyer Eduardo Kuntz on social media and confirmed by UOL through the document.
The European country’s court also ordered that a new identification document be issued to Tagliaferro. The objective of the measure is for it to be used by the defendant only for travel within the country and not abroad.
Moraes’ former advisor had to hand over his passport to authorities on the 1st. The measure was requested by the Italian Minister of Justice to prevent the Brazilian from fleeing the European country.
Tagliaferro was prohibited from leaving the region where he lives without judicial authorization. The restriction was determined by a panel made up of three Italian judges.
The arrest of the former advisor was requested, but was not granted. The request was made by the Italian Minister of Justice.
“This is the first step to demonstrate that the extradition process is completely flawed, unnecessary and aims, solely and exclusively, at the persecution of Mr. Eduardo Tagliaferro,” said Eduardo Kuntz, Tagliaferro’s lawyer.
Minister Alexandre de Moraes requested his extradition in August, but, as he was not convicted by the Brazilian courts, Tagliaferro would not be subject to arrest in Italy to be extradited, as happened with the federal deputy (-SP).
Moraes also ordered Tagliaferro’s arrest on July 31. The measure was also taken into consideration by the Italian Court, when deciding on precautionary measures against the former advisor.
Tagliaferro was denounced by the (Attorney General’s Office) after the extradition request. The request for arrest is related to the risk of him trying to escape criminal action in Brazil, and not just extradition. He allegedly leaked confidential information and tried to harm the investigations involving the 2023 coup acts.
