The Lula government is rushing to make it one of its flags in the re-election campaign next year.
As the Minister of Finance said, the department’s technical area is making calculations on how much the benefit would cost and what would be the best financing model for the sector.
Vice-president of the PT and idea, federal deputy Jilmar Tatto (SP) says that there should be a proposal formatted in 2025. According to him, the discussions are taking place at an accelerated pace.
“We are talking to Minister Haddad’s team and several representatives from mayors and the transport sector to define a form of financing as quickly as possible”, says Tatto.
According to him, the zero tariff would be a “big flag” for Lula in next year’s campaign, alongside others such as the Income Tax exemption for earnings of up to R$5,000 and changes to the gas voucher.
Tatto claims to have sought out representatives of the National Front of Mayors, such as the entity’s president, Eduardo Paes (PSD), from Rio, and the general secretary, Margarida Salomão (PT), from Juiz de Fora, to discuss the topic.
On October 21st, there will be a public hearing at the Chamber’s Urban Policy Committee to discuss the feasibility of the proposal.
One of the points to be debated is the role of the Union, states and municipalities in exempting the tariff.
