“I will not allow Democrats to take our Armed Forces and the entire security of our country hostage,” declared the US President

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Saturday (Oct 11, 2025) that he will guarantee the payment of North American military troops by Wednesday (Oct 15).

In his profile on Truth Social, Trump said he had instructed Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, to use all available resources to make the payments, stating that funds had already been identified for the transfers.

“I will not allow Democrats to hold the military and the nation’s entire security hostage to the shutdown”declared the republican. Trump criticized the Democratic leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, who he blamed for blocking negotiations in Congress.

The American president also declared that the “courageous troops” from the USA “they will not lose the payment that is their right” and asked that Democrats “open the government” so that other issues, such as health, can advance.

Here is the full publication, in Portuguese:

“Chuck Schumer recently said, ‘Every day gets better’ during the radical left-sponsored walkout. I disagree! If nothing is done, because of Chuck Schumer and the Democrats, our brave troops will lose the paychecks they are entitled to on October 15th. That’s why I’m using my authority as Commander of the Armed Forces to instruct our Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, to use all available funds so that our troops are PAID on October 15th. The funds have already been identified, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow Democrats to hold our Armed Forces and the entire security of our nation hostage with their dangerous shutdown. Radical left Democrats must reopen the government, and then we can work together to address healthcare and many other things they want to destroy. Thanks for paying attention to this subject!”.

UNDERSTAND THE IMPASSE

The House approved an extension of spending until November, but in the Senate the Republican majority needs votes from at least seven Democrats to approve the law. The problem is that the sides disagree on how to structure the budget.

Republicans defend deeper cuts in social programs and reduced federal spending, claiming that the government deficit is on an unsustainable trajectory. Democrats, on the other hand, defend the maintenance of investments in health, education and infrastructure, stating that the proposed cuts would harm millions of American families. Without consensus, none of the proposals move forward.

The shutdown on October 1st and its effects will be felt quickly across the US. In financial markets, it tends to increase the volatility of shares, interest rates and exchange rates, in addition to causing a search for safe haven assets, such as Treasuries and gold, and impacting sectors dependent on government contracts or approvals.

The impact is often limited if the shutdown is short, but the threat of mass layoffs increases the potential severity.
