In São Paulo, Enel reported that around 937 thousand customers were affected

Residents from different regions of the country reported a in the early hours of this Tuesday (14). Interference in the National Interconnected System (SIN) interrupted the power supply in several states, including Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Minas Gerais, Ceará, Mato Grosso do Sul, Amazonas and Santa Catarina. In some locations, the power outage lasted just a few minutes; in others, the blackout lasted up to 20 minutes. In São Paulo, the reported that around 937 thousand customers were affected.

Distributors Light, in Rio de Janeiro, and Enel, in São Paulo, spoke out after the incident. In a note, Light informed that, at 00:31, the Regional Load Relief Scheme (ERAC) took action due to a contingency in the system. “The action had two stages defined by the ONS, with interruption to eleven Light substations, affecting part of Baixada, North Zone and West Zone, in a total of 450 thousand customers,” stated the company. According to the company, “at 1:05 am, after authorization from the ONS, all load was restored”.

Enel São Paulo clarified that the interruption, recorded at 0:32 am, was also caused by the action of ERAC, “an automatic procedure adopted to protect the electrical system when an occurrence is identified in the SIN”. The distributor also reported that, “in eight minutes, around 0:40 am, the 937 thousand affected customers in São Paulo had their service back to normal”.
