William Bonner’s comments during a Globo event to announce news for the 2026 schedule have been causing negative reactions, especially among professionals from his former broadcaster, Band.
During a speech in which Bonner announced the return of Formula 1 to Globo, the journalist made a comment ironizing the category’s broadcasts on Band.
— Next year Formula 1 will be on Globo. And you still know what Formula 1 is, right? Because it left Globo…Formula 1 is an interesting sport — said Bonner, at the event.

The statement quickly had repercussions on social media and among Band professionals. On his social networks, narrator Téo José, from Band, wrote:
— This station has really changed. There are people who, in addition to ethics, have lost respect. Sad end,” he commented.
Presenter Neto went further, making a long rant during his program Os Donos da Bola.
— You’re such an asshole, such an idiot, especially because you’re in a National Newspaper, where you read TP (teleprompter), right? I don’t read TP, brother. And I’m illiterate — he said.
— I don’t even know if I could say that. Why are you so stupid like that? Why were you so rude to Formula 1 in Band? Do you know how much difficulty we had to have Formula 1 here? Do you know how many people worked hard here? Do you know how many people will leave Band because we lost Formula 1 — he asked.
— You have no idea what the Band is. You don’t know what the Band is. Because if you knew, you would take what you said and stick it…you know where?! Wherever you want — he shouted.
