Representation requests that the release of resources be suspended; PL congressman talks about “tax scandal”
The deputy (PL-AM) called the TCU (Federal Audit Court) to investigate the loan of R$20 billion to help Correios. The representation requests an investigation into possible irregularities, fiscal risks and lack of transparency in the Executive, which would be guaranteed by the National Treasury.
According to the congressman, the measure may violate the principles of the Fiscal Responsibility Law, the fiscal framework and the rules on granting Union guarantees. He also calls for the suspension of the release of any resources until the legality, economicity and transparency of the operation is proven, and the full publication of contracts and studies.
The deputy stated in the representation that the Post Office is accumulating recurring losses and asset imbalances. He said that an operation of this type without technical and budgetary support “could turn into a new tax scandal”. The proposal would be R$10 billion for 2025 and another R$10 billion for 2026.
On Wednesday (Oct 15), the new president of the state-owned company, Emmanoel Schmidt Rondon, announced the R$20 billion plan to save the company. The economist said the cash hole was R$5.6 billion in June. He projected that Correios will only return to profit after the recovery plan presented has been implemented in 2027.
