A United States federal judge on Wednesday (15) blocked, for now, President Donald Trump’s government from firing thousands of civil servants during the government shutdown.
The decision was made by District Judge Susan Yvonne Illston in San Francisco, five days after the administration issued layoff notices to more than 4,000 federal employees.
At the beginning of the hearing, Illston stated that he agrees with two unions who accuse the government of illegally using the lack of funding as a pretext to advance its agenda of reducing civil servants.

“Unless something changes my mind, I intend to ban what’s going on. That’s where I’m starting,” said Illston, appointed by former Democratic President Bill Clinton.
“The activities being carried out here are contrary to the law,” the judge told the administration’s lawyers during the session in which she issued the temporary restraining order.
