A man is being investigated by the Civil Guard after fatally running over a heifer with a quad during a bull run in Bolaños de Campos (Valladolid). from the restricted area last Sunday and several vehicles went out in search of him. The subject, who was caught, chased her and ran over her, killing her instantly. The government delegate of the event denounced the events, which occurred last Friday, October 3, in the Valladolid town.
The accused is a 39-year-old man, a resident of the Lleida municipality of Rosselló, who tried to flee after fatally running over the animal, and who was identified by neighbors. The mayor of Bolaños de Campos and the rancher who owned the animal reported him to the agents at the nearest Civil Guard post, in Medina de Rioseco (Valladolid).
The police proceedings regarding the case have been sent to an Investigative Court of Valladolid and to the Prosecutor’s Office of the Provincial Court of Valladolid in its Department of Urban Planning and Environment. The accused faces a penalty set forth in article 340 bis of the Penal Code, which may involve a sentence of six to eighteen months in prison or a fine of 18 to 24 months.
The Civil Guard investigated this death as a crime against animals. According to the armed institute “soon after releasing the first of the two heifers that were part of the field bull run, named ‘Jackdaw‘, when it left the improvised enclosure that the participants had formed with their vehicles.” It was then that a man piloting a quad “hit the animal, passing over it with the vehicle, causing its death on the spot.”
The video of the sequence was released by the animal rights party Pacma. The authorities have reported that this individual “tried to leave the place” but several of the attendees managed to identify him.
