wants to bring the relaxation of a dinner with friends to TV. In her new program, “Angélica Ao Vivo”, the presenter welcomes guests from different backgrounds and promises an informal conversation, accompanied by André Marques commanding the kitchen and Aline Wirley providing the soundtrack with a band. “I’ve made a lot of friends over the years and throughout my career, and we’ve welcomed very varied people at home, from all tribes. And why not have that on a television program? I’ve been doing projects that really reflect my story and what I believe in, and this project is that”, says the presenter, in an interview with Estadão.
The program is scheduled to premiere this Thursday (16), on GNTcame from an idea from the presenter herself, who says that the watchword is relaxation. “With the internet, people are very much on the live bandwagon. We increasingly have this urgency for information and also for spontaneity, and I think that, on television, we need [disso]. Live is essential for us to have a response from the public and for things to really become looser, for real.”
With a career almost as extensive as her own life (after all, her first appearance on TV was at the age of 4), Angélica says that she only now feels safe to be on a live program where situations will not always be under her control. After all, food can burn, the band can miss a chord and the guests’ conversation can take an unknown or controversial turn.
“I’ve done a lot of things live and I liked everything and felt good. But security comes from maturity. I think I have an internal story – and not a television story, because everyone knows that – that gives me comfort. I’m sure of what I like, what I want and where I feel good”, he admits. “Being able to choose, which is also a privilege, the places where I will be. Maturity to even say things that suddenly, in a live setting before, I was afraid of”.
In this sense, the communicator states that this same security is what eliminates the fear of any type of virtual cancellation. “Nowadays everyone is afraid of being canceled. It’s normal. But when you have an internal security of what you believe in and what you want to convey, this doesn’t become a problem. On the contrary, it becomes material for you to be there talking to people.”
Conversations about (almost) everything
In recent years, Angélica has ventured into streaming and returned to presentation with some varied formats. In HBO Maxdirected “Jornada Astral” (which was removed from the platform and is now not available anywhere), and made “Angélica: 50 & Tantos e 50 & Uns” on Globoplay; for the Disney+acted in the series “Tarã”, still unreleased, alongside Bruno Garcia.
It is this same versatility that promises to leave the program’s possible themes quite free. In addition to guests who will form “a big fruit salad”, all editions will feature an expert from some area, who could be anthropologists, psychologists, journalists or others – people who, according to Angélica, she herself follows on social media. Even so, some issues considered more thorny will be avoided.
“We want to avoid talking about politics, because we are in a very polarized and complex moment. All the subjects we are going to talk about there are subjects that I believe are important for those who are watching. Of course, politics is also, but I think it distorts when we get into this story, because the world is very confused”, he says, stating that the editions will not shy away from the hot topics of the week, and that the selection of guests itself will instigate dialogue.
“When people don’t know each other, they may think they don’t have things in common, but then, everyone has something to add to each other’s lives. We should think more collectively, live more like this. I think our country needs civilized conversations because no one owns the truth.”
By proposing such a space for dialogue, the communicator analyzes her own career and the place she occupies today – as she herself defines, of privilege – to support projects in which she truly believes. “I speak from a place of great privilege, of being able to choose what I want to do, my team, what I can have around me. My greatest wealth is being able to be in this place today, as well as having time and being able to choose to do the projects I believe in. It wasn’t always like that”, he confesses.
“Throughout our career, we go and sometimes you’re working with someone who doesn’t like you very much, you’re giving off that energy [ruim]. Or that you chose it yourself and it is like that, because it is part of it. Being able to be with people who are on the same wavelength and have the same beliefs is very enjoyable. Of course, I also have my crazy moments, but for me it’s important to be connected with whoever is there with you.”
