In an apartment in Valencia, Spain, police discovered a mummified body that had been lying there for about 15 years without any suspicion from local residents. It is assumed that a deceased man named Antonio died around 2010 aged 70 or 71.

According to Spanish TV stations RTVE and Antena 3 Firefighters and police entered a sixth-floor apartment in the La Fuensanta district to clear damage caused by recent rains. That’s when they found Antonio’s body, which it was in his bedroom, surrounded by pigeons, bird carcasses, insects and a great deal of rubbish.
The apartment door was locked from the inside and there were no signs of outside intervention. Although investigators are currently working with the theory that Antonio died of natural causes, they say an autopsy will provide more details.
Neighbors expressed their disgust at having lived near the deceased man for so long. Those who knew Antonio described him as a recluse who avoided his family for decades and kept minimal contact with the outside world.
“Since we hardly ever saw him, everyone assumed he lived in a nursing home,” one of the residents told Antena 3 television. It is believed that after his death, his bills continued to be automatically paid and his neighbors regularly emptied his overflowing mailbox. This may have inadvertently helped to conceal his tragic passing.
